Master's Message

May 2012

Ladies and Brethren

As I lie here in my hospital bed awaiting a by-pass I guess I'm meant to be thinking about my life and family and all the things life has meant to me but really I'm just thinking about what's for dinner tonight! It's just over two weeks now since I had pains in my chest and ended up here and should have had my Op by the time you read this. I've been visited by Brethren in Rotorua and Hamilton, and I can truthfully say it was nice to see them and have a talk.

That brings me to my thought of the month - Almoners! We haven't got an official one at present in Kaimanawa - we all are almoners! I've done a little visiting of our older and in-firm brethren since going into the chair and can recommend it just on the basis that those i have seen gave me pleasure in listening to their stories and experiences. Now on the other side (oops! That should be Now that I have seen it from another viewpoint) I can appreciate the pleasure of someone keeping me in touch and making me feel special it that they wanted to come and see me. Think about it. Your visit can really make someone's day, and you don't have to be the 'official' almoner either!

    Lodge News

The Installation of Bro S McClay to the chair of Master of Lodge Kaimanawa No. 426 took place on Saturday 18th September, 2010. The working was carried out by V W Bro Bob Gainsford, Past District Grand Master and Grand Lodge Officers of Geyserland District No. 11.

Tyling was at 6:30 pm and visitors were received at 7:00 pm, followed by Grand Lodge at 7:30 pm. A successful evening was held, followed by a festive dinner, aided by members of the local Scout group, who were raising funds for an upcoming Jamboree. Visitors were thanked for attending, from long distances, in the extremely inclement weather.

W Bro J Gregg, P Dist GDC, celebrated his last night in the Master's Chair on Wednesday 18th August, 2010. The evening's ceremony was highlighted (sic) by the provision of the 'lesser lights' due to a power failure. The candles provided a festive glow, reminiscent of centuries past and the ceremony was performed to a high standard, attended by the District Grand Master Elect, W Bro K Allen, PGBB. After closing the Lodge, Brethren retired to the Refectory to join with the Ladies for dinner and socialising, again by candlelight, until the resumption of power brought the assembled back to the present day.
